People here really like black coffee. They sell many brands of black as well coffee with milk that has no sugar (like cafe oles and lattes). And people buy it!
Sugar does cost more here, but I am not sure if that is the driving factor. I think it is about culture. Sugar in tea and coffee is not such a big thing here. People seem to actually enjoy the straight bitter of coffee.
